Always a crowd pleaser, Kokokahi Gymnastics Team tumbles in the annual 4th of July parade in Kailua.


June 2005
USA Gymnastics introduces new compulsory routines for the country. Coach Suzie travels to Reno, Nevada to learn them and bring them back to teach Kokokahi’s gymnasts.


May/June 2005
Congratulations to former Kokokahi gymnasts that graduate high school and retire from gymnastics competition. In the fall, Lara Nakagawa will attend University of Hawaii and Alyssa Kojima will attend Santa Clara University.

Always a very meaningful event, Kokokahi hosted the 25th anniversary of the Luka Nakoa meet. Luka was coached by Loree Galimore, who works in member services at USA Gymnastics.

January 14 – 16, 2005
Aloha Gymfest 2005
The 29th annual Aloha Gymfest hosted over 300 gymnasts from 28 clubs representing Hawaii, US mainland, Japan, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. This year marked the first year of boy’s competition, with more teams expected to compete in the future.


January 16 – 19, 2004
Kokokahi Gym Team hosted the 28th annual Aloha Gymfest at Kailua High School. We welcomed 22 teams from Hawaii, the Mainland, Japan, Australia and Canada for three days of excellent gymnastics competition followed by a fun-filled beach picnic on the fourth day. Girls from both the Compulsory and Optionals teams competed at Gymfest.


February 14 and 15, 2004
The Optionals Team competed at the Ku’uipo Classic, hosted by Rainbow Gymnastics at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. The Level 4 compulsory gymnasts also competed in their State Meet.


February 29, 2004
Kokokahi hosted the Luka Nakoa Invitational for Level 8 girls. This annual event honors former Kokokahi gymnast Luka Nakoa. This year’s meet winner was our own Keolamau Yee.


March 1, 2004
We welcomed the addition of coach Kalani Pa and our new boys team. Everyone at Kokokahi is very excited about the revival of the long dormant boys competitive program.

The Hawaii Boys State Meet was held at the Kokokahi gym – our first boys competition in many years!


March 20 and 21, 2004
Kokokahi Gymnastics hosted the Hawaii Girls Levels 7 - 10 State Meet. Our thanks to all the parent volunteers who worked so hard to make this event a success.


March 29 – April 4, 2004
The Optionals Team traveled to Corvallis, Oregon for the Region II championships. Team members who made the trip: Alyssa Kojima, Darrah Hokama, Kahoku Palafox, Courtney Fukuda, Maile Dyer, Emily Bogden, Mia Belluche, Keolamau Yee and Dayle Akamine. While in Corvallis the team attended an NCAA Regional Competition at Oregon State University where they watched former Kokokahi gymnast Elyse Wong compete for the University of California, Berkeley. Meanwhile, Boys Team members Jon Wakida, Ryan Saragoza and Geremy Campos traveled to Phoenix, Arizona for their Regional competition.


May 5 – 10, 2004
Boys Team members Jon Wakida, Ryan Saragoza and Geremy Campos competed at Nationals in San Diego, California.

Assistant Coach, and University of Hawaii student, Micah Wallin took a leave of absence to spend three months studying in China.

June 2004
Elyse Wong
Former Kokokahi gymnast Elyse Wong returned to workout at the gym during the summer following a successful freshman year competing for the University of California, Berkeley gymnastics team.

Kiralee Hayashi
    Former Kokokahi gymnast, Kiralee Hayashi, had the highest finish for a Bruin in the all-round at the 1998 NCAAs, placing fifth with a career-high tying 39.4.  Earned first-team All-American honors in the all-round and bars. NCAA Results
